In 2008, the Kathryn C. Vecellio Executive Women of the Palm Beaches Opportunity Scholarship which was launched by our first Honorary Luncheon Chair, Kathryn C. Vecellio, a very special executive woman who has lived in Palm Beach County for thirty years.  Her philanthropic impact is legend, and her achievements on behalf of the American Heart Association, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Schepens Eye Institute, PBAU, and countless other organizations are remarkable.

Katie learned at a very early age the responsibility of service that we have to our communities, and to the world.  She learned the value of education as a lifelong experience -- which by the way – for her includes a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling.

So you see how relevant this scholarship truly is for Katie as a way to once again “pay it forward,” while reflecting her deep respect for, and understanding of, the importance of education, commitment to service, and lifelong efforts “to give to others the best that one can give.”  Awarded to a student attending Palm Beach Atlantic University’s School of Education and Behavioral Studies, this scholarship will provide its recipient the opportunity to reach her potential through education. As a result of this opportunity, Katie hopes, and so do we, that the recipient “pays it forward” and makes positive changes within her community.
